Maintaining our average daily energy usage

Currently I am sitting at Sydney airport waiting for my flight.

Thought I would give you an update on our daily energy usage for our home and business combined.

My last update had us using 6kWh as an average daily energy usage.  Proud to annouce that our bill from 3.3.10 to 31.5.10 showed we have maintained our daily energy usage of 6kWh for home & business.

However our bill 1.6.10 – 30.8.10 showed our combined average daily energy usage jumped up to 10.47kWh!  What is odd is that we were not even in our house or office during most of this time.  How is it then possible for the usage to jump?

The reason surprised me.  Regular readers will know that our Sydney City Suburb had a flash flood come through and most houses were badly damaged (including our home and office).  This meant we had to leave while builders came in to carry out repairs.  Whatever the builders were doing to dry the house out and repair the damage, used huge amounts of energy.  The three industrial fans going 24 hours and 7 days a week to dry our house, I think was the main energy sucker!

Well at least we can be proud that we were  able to maintain our low daily energy usage before the flood.  Now just got to work out how to make it even lower!

P.S.  I’ll be travelling for work then play, for three weeks.  I’ll do my best to try to write another post during this time.
